Overview

The Environmental +Interior Design: Introduction to Interior Design (IID) certificate curriculum emphasizes the fundamental skills and knowledge of interior design, architecture, and visual presentation. Introductory courses focus on drawing, design process, and materiality thereby building a foundation-level understanding of the technical and design principles essential to comprehending space planning, color, drafting, and materials and finishes.

  • The program can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis

  • Courses are offered onsite/online/hybrid depending on the instructor’s pedagogy

  • The curriculum focuses on the foundation of interior design

  • All credits can be applied to the BFA or AA programs

The IID certificate alone is not sufficient for graduates to be eligible for licensure without further professional education and experience.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Environmental +Interior Design IID Certificate, students will be able to:

  • Understand the basic framework of interior design as a discipline.

  • Explore and apply the basic techniques of design thinking and depiction.

  • Communicate simple design solutions and problem-solving rationales.

  • EID-271 Materiality in Interior Design (4 credits)

  • EID-312 Presentation Methods (3 credits)
